Science Day Seminar organized by Department of Physics

National Science Day is celebrated in India on 28 February each year to mark the discovery of the Raman effect by Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman on 28 February 1928.

Every year Department of Physics, Basirhat College observes this day by arranging seminar where both students and teacher participate and delivers lecture on various topics.

NSS, Basirhat College takes part in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (English: Clean India Movement) is a campaign by the Government of India to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of the country's 4,041 statutory cities and towns. It includes ambassadors and activities such as run, national real-time monitoring or spread of updated NGOs practices.

To highlight the concept of Swach Bharat Abhiyan, N.S.S volunteers of Basirhat college unit, being divided into several groups frequently cleaned slum villages. The cut underwoods and creeper, set fires in the heaps of garbage and cleaned muddy villages. The volunteers also campaigned about these works to the village people. N.S.S programme officer also took part in the programme.

Department of Zoology organizes a cultural program in connection to Teachers Day

The birth date of the second President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, 5 September 1888, is celebrated as Teacher's Day in India since 1962. On this day, teachers and students attends the institution as usual but the regular activities and classes are replaced by activities of celebration, thanks and remembrance.

Department of Zoology, Basirhat College celebrates this day vibrantly by organizing a short but enchanting cultural program which includes recitation, music, dance-drama, drama and skits. Students from first, second and third year classes participated in this program. Professor Khairul Alam, TIC enriched this program with his valuable speech.

Special thanks to Prof. Subhendu Dasmunsi, Department of Bengali for helping in preparation of this program.

Inter College Football tournament organized by Basirhat College

In this year ( 2016 )Basirhat College was nominated to organize Inter-college football competition for men. The match was solely an event organized under West Bengal State University. It was held in Basirhat Sub divisional Sports Association’s Maidan on 16 to 21st of December. A total number of 16 colleges participated in this event. Barasat College emerged as the champion of the football competition and Barrackpur Rashraguru Surendranath College was declared as the runner up team. Basirhat College and Bamanpukur Humayun Kabir Mahavidyalaya were the semi finalists of the event. Renowned footballers like Sri Dipendu Biswas, Sri Sushil Sinha and Sri Jagadish Ghosh were present in the enent as spectators as well as the selectors. Dr Anirban Sarkar the convenor of Sports Board of West Bengal State University was also present in this sport event.

“Safe Drive” campaigning by NCC, Basirhat College

Basirhat College being a centre of higher education always acknowledges its responsibility towards social causes. That’s why  on 7th of April, 2017 our students along with a few teachers participated in Safe Drive awareness campaign. Guided by Prof. Sutanu Dutta Chowdhury our student volunteers spread awareness among the general public about the necessity of safe driving. To start up they chose the busy road adjacent to the college itself.
