Department of Zoology

About the Department

The department of Zoology of Basirhat College was established in 1980. In 1996 the Zoology Honours Course was introduced after 16 years of establishment of the department under the affiliation of University of Calcutta. From 2010 onwards the college as well as the department is affiliated under West Bengal State University, Barasat.

The department has well-built infrastructure with laboratories, class rooms and a departmental library. The laboratories are well-equipped with all its requirements. The Department regularly organizes fieldtrip to the places of zoological interest and encourages students in various zoological projects like biodiversity study and behaviour study.

Chinmoy Ghosh, Assistant Professor, M.Sc.,

Prof. Ghosh joined the Department of Zoology on 01.08.2008. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree from the University of Kalyani with specialisation on Cell Biology. He is a life member of Zoological Society of Kolkata.

Uday Hossain department of Zoology

Uday Hossain, Assistant Professor, M.Sc.,

Prof. Uday Hossain joined Department of Zoology as an Assistant Professor on 7 the November, 2019. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree from University of Kalyani with specialisation on Endocrinology and Reproductive Biology. He has qualified CSIR-UGC NET on June 2017 and awarded as UGC-JRF. He has also qualified WBSET in 2017. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. under the guidance of Prof. Parames Chandra Sil in the Department of Molecular Medicine of Bose Institute, Kolkata. His research topic is based on the ameliorative role of some bioactive compound on diabetic complications. 

Shuvoraj Paul department of Zoology

Subharaj Paul, State Aided College Teacher, M. Sc.,

Prof. Paul joined the department of zoology on 04.11.2009. He also served as a guest lecturer in Bkc college and Victoria girls college. He completed his msc degree from calcutta university in the year 2007. His area of interest is ethology and endocrinology.

Mrs. Arpita Mondal, State-Aided College Teacher, M.Sc. BEd

Mrs. Arpita Mondal joined Basirhat College in September, 2018. She achieved B.Sc. degree with Honours in Zoology from Raja Peary Mohan College, Uttarpara affiliated to University of Calcutta and M.Sc. from the Bethune College with specialization in Odonata (Entomology) affiliated to the University of Calcutta. She qualified GATE(2018) Examination. She completed B.ed from Chinsurah College of Education affiliated to the Burdwan University. Her area of interest is "Diversity of Odonata in different locations and their abundance in the locality."
