About the Department
The department of Zoology of Basirhat College was established in 1980. In 1996 the Zoology Honours Course was introduced after 16 years of establishment of the department under the affiliation of University of Calcutta. From 2010 onwards the college as well as the department is affiliated under West Bengal State University, Barasat.
The department has well-built infrastructure with laboratories, class rooms and a departmental library. The laboratories are well-equipped with all its requirements. The Department regularly organizes fieldtrip to the places of zoological interest and encourages students in various zoological projects like biodiversity study and behaviour study.
Chinmoy Ghosh, Assistant Professor, M.Sc.,
Prof. Ghosh joined the Department of Zoology on 01.08.2008. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree from the University of Kalyani with specialisation on Cell Biology. He is a life member of Zoological Society of Kolkata. Read More..
Damayanti Bakra, HOD, Assistant Professor, M. Sc.,
Prof. Damayanti Bakra joined the Department of Zoology on 30th April, 2010. She received her M.Sc. degree from the University of Calcutta with specialisation on Entomology. She has completed a UGC sponsored Minor Research Project in the year 2015. Now she is pursuing her Ph.D. under the guidance of Dr. Shilanjan Bhattacharya of WBSU. Read More..
Shuvoraj Paul, Part Time Teacher, M. Sc.,
Prof. Paul joined the department of zoology on 04.11.2009. He also served as a guest lecturer in Bkc college and Victoria girls college. He completed his msc degree from calcutta university in the year 2007. His area of interest is ethology and endocrinology. Read More..
Dr. Raju Sahu, Guest Lecturer, M.Sc., Ph.D.,
Dr. Sahu obtained his Master’s degree with specialization in fish biology from Visva-Bharati. He has also pursued B.Ed. degree from the University of Calcutta. He studied the biochemistry of vitellogenin (yolk precursor protein) protein from fish during his doctoral research at the laboratory of Prof. Panchanan Nath, Dept. of Zoology, Visva-Bharati, India in the year 2006. He has studied bacteremia in cirrhotic patient as an ICMR SRF in the Dept. of Gastro Enterology, IPGME & R, Kolkata in collaboration with Molecular Microbiology Laboratory, NICED, Kolkata. He studied the mutation of p63 gene causing AEC syndrome during his Post Doctoral Research, at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, Philadelphia, USA. Read More..
