About the Department
Basirhat College was established in the year 1947 with afiiliation to the University of Calcutta. In the year 1969 the affiliation of the Science faculty was available from the University of Calcutta & the Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal and from then the Department of Mathematics (for Pass / General Course only) was established.
In the session 2001-2002 the Honours course of the department was introduced in order to cater to the needs of students coming from an area which is educationally, socially and economically marginal.
This college is no longer affiliated to the Calcutta University. Basirhat College is now affiliated to West Bengal State University. The department with its energetic and efficient teaching faculty and well equiped with basic amenities, has the capacity to provide education which will not only help them in building a strong hold on the nuances of the subject but also prepare them for their future challenges.

Dr. Pintu Debnath, Assistant Professor, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Pintu Debnath did his B.Sc from University of Kalyani and M.Sc from Jadavpur University in the year 2012. He obtained his Ph.D degree from University of Kalyani in the year 2018. His research interest was about Topological Dynamics. He jioned in Basirhat college in the year 2015 . Read More..
Dr. Sudip Mondal, Assistant Professor, M.Sc., Ph.D.
Sudip Mondal did his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics from Gobardanga Hindu College in the year of 2008 and M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics in the year of 2010 from University of Calcutta. He has done his research on “Study on Nonclassical theory of thermoelasticity” and received Ph.D. degree from University of Calcutta in the year of 2019. In addition to independent research work, presently he is engaged with researches in collaboration too. His present area of interest is “Nonlocal Thermoelasticity” and “Memory Dependent Thermoelasticity”. He authored more than thirty papers in various international SCI/SCIE journals.A considerable number of articles by Dr. Mondal are being communicated to journals of international fame and would be published shortly. Dr. Biswajit Sarkar, Assistant Professor, M.Sc.
"Biswajit Sarkar completed his B.Sc. (Hons.) in Mathematics from Sree Chaitanya College, Habra, in the year of 2003 and M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics in the year of 2005 from University of Calcutta. He is pursuing research work in the Department of Mathematics, University of Kalyani, India. He has submitted his thesis entitled “Pythagorean fuzzy set theoretic approaches to multicriteria decision making”. Presently, he is engaged with independent research works in “decision making within advanced fuzzy domain”. He has published several research articles in various leading international SCI/SCIE journals and attended several international and national conferences. Also, he has communicated a substantial number of articles to journals of international fame and would be published soon. He is a life member of ‘Indian Statistical Institute (ISI)’ and ‘Operational Research Society of India (ORSI)”. He joined Basirhat College as an Assistant Professor in Mathematics in the year 2015.
