About Eco Club

Just after the 2020 pandemic, the need for environmental awareness in students in a holistic approach led the educators of Basirhat College to form and build an Eco Club. The changes in the society like urbanization, technological advancement and effects of social media led to the need that students should not only be nurturing their cognitive development but also be fostering their psycho- motor abilities which would equip them for the future.

The club provides a platform to create awareness about biodiversity conservation and environmental issues by urging all of its’ stakeholders as well as local people to adapt their daily habits to the most sustainable options and adopt eco-friendly practices like recycling & saving non-renewable resources. It advances the notion that being environment friendly is more about making informed choices on a personal level that changes one’s perception about and consumption of resources.

Basirhat College Eco club empowers students as well as teachers to participate and take up meaningful environmental activities and projects. It is a forum through which students can reach out to promote sound environmental behavior. It also empowers students to explore environmental concepts and actions beyond the confines of a syllabus or curriculum. While everyone, everywhere, asserts the importance of ‘learning to live sustainably,’ Basirhat College Eco Club makes sure that its students start to look at nature for a secured tomorrow. It emphasizes on the fact that the commitment to go green requires small & surprisingly easy changes that reduce one’s carbon footprint thereby benefiting both the wallet and planet.

The Begining:

The Eco Club of Basirhat College was initiated on November, 2022.

Mission and Vision:

• ▸ To create awareness among the students to Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
• ▸ Motivate the students to keep their surroundings green and clean by undertaking cleanliness drives and plantation of trees.
• ▸ Promote ethos of conservation of water by optimizing the use of water.
• ▸ Motivate students to imbibe habits and life style for minimum waste generation, separation of waste and disposing the waste to the nearest storage point.
• ▸ To create awareness among the students to reduce the use of plastic in the community.
• ▸ Organize seminars, debates, lectures and popular talks on environmental issues in the college to motivate the students to keep their surroundings green and clean.
• ▸ Sensitize the students to minimize the use of plastic bags, not to throw them in public places as they choke drains and sewers, cause water logging and provide breeding ground for mosquitoes.
• ▸ Take up any other innovative programme on environmental issues.
