Plastic waste cleaning and awareness programme by NSS unit of Basirhat College
Date: 22.04.2022
The NSS unit of Basirhat College organized a programme on cleaning of plastic waste and awareness regarding the harmful effects of plastic use on environment on 22.04.2022. The volunteers of the unit met the sellers in local market places and motivated buyers and sellers to not to use plastic carry bags. 27 NSS volunteers and NSS PO participated in the programme.

A vibrant annual cultural programme was organized in Basirhat College. Renowned personalities from the world of music and entertainment were the main guests of the programme. Our beloved students from different departments also participated in the programme. It was a grand success in truest sense.

Opening of Library OPAC system
The Library of Basirhat College has successfully opened the Library OPAC system. It enables students and teachers to search for books online that are available in the library.

Basirhat College becomes a part of NPTEL as a local chapter
NPTEL is an acronym for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning. It is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents multiple disciplines. It offers a huge number of courses that help enhance knowledge and skill. Basirhat college has become a part of this major project by becoming a local chapter. 🏛️ Welcome to Basirhat College
Basirhat college, an institution with distinction, started its journey radiating the light of higher education on 16th November 1947. The institution stands on the bank of Ichhamoti, which flows by its ancient seat of learning and culture that witnessed the many souls of the soil rise to eminence. In 1947, the institution was primarily housed at the Basirhat Town Hall and later on it was shifted to Late Khan Bahadur A.F.M Abdur Rahaman's residence at the heart of Basirhat Town. Later, Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, an eminent educationist and national leader of our country laid the foundation stone at the present location of the college. The institution now functioning in three shifts - morning, day and evening, accommodating a huge number of students both boys and girls, coming from villages and towns like Taki, Hingalgunge, Jogeshgunj, Samsernagar, Katihat, Deganga, Haroa, Baduria, Berachampa etc to obtain their bachelor degree in Arts, Science and Commerce.
This year (2021) we are proudly celebrating the 75th foundation anniversary of the college.

Education helps personality bloom like a flower. Our college, through diverse activities, endeavours to play the role of a perfect gardener. Dedication of teachers combined with the effort of disciplined learners has kept the wheel of this distinguished institution moving ever forward in the path of knowledge. With an energetic squad of cooperative non-teaching staff members and an ever vigilant administrative team, no stone is being left unturned to open windows for learners so as to enable them to view the horizon of knowledge with its different dimensions. Besides striving to train the students march competently in the path of success, this institution has been relentlessly active for shaping personalities of the students in harmony with the practicalities so that they can make fruitful use of the negative situations, likely to be faced in the ups and downs of their mortal journey, for building the future in best possible manner. Traditional class-teaching here, naturally, has been supplemented by some attractive and student-friendly methods over last seven and a half decades. Inclusive education, being our aim, Basirhat College welcomes cordially seekers of knowledge irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and gender. I feel myself blessed and honoured for having the opportunity of sharing my time in reciprocation with immense human resources vibrant with positive potentials.
